We've recently celebrated Father's Day in many parts of the world & it's certainly a time that we pause & reflect on the male role models in our lives & those who we choose to have partnerships & relationships with nowadays. I'm grateful for some incredible career mentors who are still in my life today & of course my business mentors & friends that I've worked with more recently through Prosperity Of Life. I also love that in the industry of Personal Development - it's not a "Big Boys Club" or a "Women Only" environment. We have such a great community of both men & women BUT there's a trend happening & it's exciting to see...
According to recent stats, about 75% of Distributors or Associates in Direct Sales are women. It is said that based on typical product lines being more female oriented (Health & Wellbeing, Cosmetics, Cleaning Products) it has been a natural product path for women to follow - combined with the fact that the industry offers flexibility to work around raising a family. However, the scales are starting to tip for a few very good reasons.
Our now generation of men are very different thinkers to their Fathers & Grandfather's - less "traditional" you could say & often more present with their own families & wanting more time freedom to be so. Our young gents are often coming out of school or University studies & they're not able to find employment in their chosen career path but they are more tech, networking & marketing savvy & they're opening their eyes to other opportunities that might be out there.
Throughout the COVID pandemic the world's "Executive Men" were home based, like so many women have been for decades before & it created an opportunity to see the benefits of a "working life" outside of the office. Targets were met, Global meetings were held & new products were launched - all from a new "home office" environment. This has been part of the reason we've seen an upward spike in the number of men choosing to get started in their own business in the Direct Sales industry. In fact, just in the last 3 months, our rate of gents launching their business with Prosperity Of Life is at an impressive 40%!
The Direct Sales industry initally found it's feet with men pounding the pavement & knocking on doors selling vacuums, encyclopaedias & other household items. With most of the customers being women, the product line up quickly expanded to offer more appealing items that women would buy for themselves - perfumes & makeup were introduced & entirely new companies were launched. Consumers became Sellers & women found their way in the Direct Sales industry.
Still to this day it is far more common for men to see themselves going into business than women. 60% of men say they would like to start their own business if they haven't already, but only 43% of women do. Despite these odds, the Home Business / Network Marketing Industry is largely populated by women.
Enter the new era... men are looking for more flexibility for family life, "enjoyment in retirement", there's a greater focus on their own well-being and ageism in the Corporate world is a real thing. Check out this recent interview with Michael Berry - one of Prosperity Of Life's Top Distributors & Advisory Board Members. Michael was a high paid CEO in the USA who was "managed out" in a Corporate restructure - and without being told at the time, age was an issue & this is not an uncommon story - for both male & female executives.
So, if you're a gent thinking about getting started with Prosperity Of Life - just know, you are so welcome. This really is an environment that anyone can succeed in & the timing couldn't be better. Ladies, you too! Like they say, the best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago, the second best time is now. It couldn't be more true for our industry & we're excited about our growth, our diversity & our success all round.
Game on EVERYONE I say!
To Your Success!
